How it is to be a good friend to others then?

Proverbs 11:13

13 A gossip betrays a confidence,
but a trustworthy person keeps a secret.
.
New International Version (NIV)

Kawikaan 11:13 (Tagalog) Magandang Balita Biblia (TPV)
13 Walang maitatago sa bibig na madaldal, ngunit ang tunay na kaibigan, iyong mapagkakatiwalaan.

A pot cover, cooking spoon and a little brown checkered teddy bear were my only friends and playmate when I was young. I was not used in dealing with other people which made it difficult for me to go along with the others as I grew up.  Often times I would ask myself if I am doing it right to create friends.

So, “How it is to be a good friend to others then?”

I often ask this to myself. Honestly, I admire those people who were able to create good friends wherever they go. I often rate myself not being good at this task.

“Just be yourself.”

An old advice used by so many and most of the time it works but I doubt if this would work for me. In my thought…not everybody would like who we really are. There are some people who would classify other people that they would like to be with. They simply have their own reasons.

So, “How it is to be a good friend to others then?”

As I have matured (I hope. I did! J) and have passed so many experiences in life and had bumped and mingled with different kinds of people, the teaching of King Solomon is a true answer to my question,

“How it is to be a good friend to others then?” -but a trustworthy person keeps a secret (-ngunit ang tunay na kaibigan, iyong mapagkakatiwalaan.)

Being silent and trustworthy to all the personal matters entrusted to me would be a good character to have and I would always do my best to be one to glorify the Lord and follow HIS teaching thru the bible.

***
One day, I told my husband, “I am glad I have Jesus as my friend. How come others have a best friend in this world and I don’t have one?”

He said, “You are wrong. You have a best friend.”

“I do?” I asked and looked at him quizzically.

“Yes, you do… You have me.” He said.

For that, he deserves a hug and a kiss.

(Ah at that moment I felt…this is a good life! Thank you, Lord!)

Let us pray…

Dear God, I cannot thank you enough for the wonderful blessings you gave us. Thank you for the friends we can trust and best friend that we have in this world. Thank you for the chances to change and be a good friend to others as well. We believe that by keeping your teachings we would be able to gain more good friends as we go along with our lives. We know. Lord that ‘gossip’ would do more harm than good and this is one character that we should not posses. We are your wise children, Lord and we will do our best to be one…In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

  8. I am not that sure if I am always a good friend. I have few true good friends and although most of them are far away, I still consider then my true friends. The care and love, trust and yes being true are the most important factors in friendship.

    1. To have one is already a blessing but you have few which is more than one, :) you are truly blessed then. Only our friends can say if we are being good or not unless we know to ourselves that what we are doing is already wrong but personally, I think you are a kind of person that is a good friend. :) God bless!

  10. I've never been one to make the first move in making friends when I was a kid. I was very shy and quiet then. Surprisingly, I have made many friends despite that. I don't know why, but it's people who approach me. I guess many people like to have a good listener and someone who is not quick to judge and can keep secrets.

One does not really need a whole battalion of friends...only a few, but trustworthy ones would suffice. I too have only one best friend, and that is more than enough.

  11. I had a bestfriend that I lost over love. They say bestfriends can be lovers, but lovers can't be friends hahahah!

My husband was not my bestfriend, but I'm glad he's one of the people who can stand up for me.

  12. Tww, that was so sweet for your husband to say that. Me too, I grew up not having lots of friends. I am not choosy naman. I guess it's because of my personality also na I'm quite kept to myself. I'm a loner so to say. Just as long as I had a book to read then I'm ok. I still am like that up to now but not often anymore. My family had kept me busy and they're now my barkada. :-)

Hope you/your loved ones are safe in the aftermath of Typhoon Haiyan.

    1. We are safe. (Thanks to God) the typhoon did not have much effect in our area in comparison to those living on Tacloban, Leyte. However, my heart is also brokenhearted after seeing the aftermath of the typhoon...and you are correct, a true friend is a blessing.

I still can't get over what your hubby said to you. He really is so sweet. You are so lucky and blessed to have him in your life. :-)

  20. Wow tita glen, i want to comment about this. As a youth i learned this two things from our church.

Secrets - Yes, that's true, napakahalaga para sa mga kaibigan na yung opinyon nila or sinabi sayo ay sealed kasi dun higit na mas magiging malalim yung relasyon niyong dalawa bilang magkaibigan. Also, as to what the bible says, you also, should rebuke your friend. True friends are honest to each other kahit magkasakitan sila, because it's the truth. :)

Spouse - Sa church meron po kaming pinagpapasahang libro na binabasa, "ï kissed dating goodbye"ang title, this is about getting into a relationship of Christian people and engaging into sex. Very helpful for youth and young adults. Ang good foundation ng isang magandang relasyon ay pagkakaibigan at nakaktuwa po kasi yung husband niyo told you na kaibigan mu siya, mawala man ang love may friendship pa din. :)
