Market Experience

Have you ever been cheated at the market place?

I have seen this...not only once but many times! as far as I can remember.

I am a type of person who likes to invest in loyalty, honesty and fair dealing. Once I like a "tindera" or seller/dealer,  I have the tendency to become a "suki"or regular customer or shop and I am a type of customer who recommends the stall of my "suki"to others.

I saw this cheating done by a chicken seller in the wet market which I was trying to be a regular customer or "suki". We all know very well that most seller now uses digital weighing scale and this is what she uses. She shouted the price of chicken as Php 125.00 per kilo to attract customers but then tricked them by being fast in weighing it with Php 135.00 punched in her scale. I got disappointed.  So I asked her again the price and she repeated Php 125.00 per kilo. I handed her a whole chicken and looked at the price punched in the scale...still it's Php 135.00 and I asked her to change it to the dealing price of Php 125.00. I got my items on dealing price but to my dismay when someone came and bought a chicken she quickly changed the amount to Php 135.00 while shouting Php 125.00. How disappointing! We need to be smart on this kind of merchant.

I never return to her stall again.

I was also a "suki" of vegetable seller in our small town market. I never asked  for "tawad" or discount for every single item while I am in the process of shopping and I usually take all the vegetables I need for several days in her shop at one shopping. I trusted her enough to give me the discount since I have observed that she was not charging me too high on our earlier deals. I only take discounts on the final total price. One day, while shopping in her stall, I happened to meet the owner of the stall who gave me a price of the radish as Php 20.00 per kilo. I smiled and said to her that I would be glad to have my vegetable computed by her assistant which is my "suki".  I got a piece of radish which weigh 250 grams so I knew it was Php 5.00 only. To my surprise she listed the item as Php 10.00!  when I asked why ,she said, the price of the radish is Php 40.00 per kilo! What a disappointment! Totally overpriced!

The next shopping day, I chose to buy to different shops. It is harder but I think it is wiser that way. I still have some favorite shops for fish and other stuff but it is wiser to check on other stalls as well for better service, good price and better items.

So you see, I am not the only one who get's disappointed when cheating is done...even God is.

  1. Hmm... I cannot remember being cheated though. But being cheated in any way is insulting.

  2. yeah, me too.. I don't like being cheated.. Trust should be earned so once it's broken, it's hard to trust again

  3. That's bad.. cheating will not make them rich. I hope they realize that.

  4. I guess I've been cheated once or twice. I really tell myself to be wiser. But then, shame on those who are cheating on people. That's why I support the taking away of the pork barrel fund.

  5. That is sad. Like you, I avoid returning to shops that I do not trust anymore.

  6. Dishonesty does not go well with business...it does not prosper in the long run.

  7. I think there are many dishonest in the market nowadays. Like when we bought fish, they are saying that it only cost 70 pesos per kilo compared to others who sold 80-90 per kilo. When they weigh the fish, they transfer it quickly first to a basin half-full with water before placing in the weighing scale and when they place it in plastic bag, they will place the water too and they will seal the plastic tightly. from then on we never bought to those saying that they sell at lower price compared to others.

  8. I think i've had my share of dishonest sellers. Whether in the market, divisoria or some other places aside from stalls with actual POS systems, i have been cheated on with prices. Even in the jeepneys, i get really pissed off when they say they already gave my change when they really haven't yet. Well, sorry sila, they just lose respect from people they deal with that way.

  10. I've never experienced being cheated before since I don't do the grocery. But when I was back home, my mother experienced buying rotten eggplants and soya :(

  11. I haven't been cheated in the market, but I have encountered worst cheating scenarios. It's really disappointing to be cheated by someone you deeply trust! I'm praying for their soul nalang.

  12. Just be fair, in that way more blessings come to your way.. I never really experienced something like this, but if I do. i won't be a happy camper and that makes me shop somewhere else.

  13. we usually buy from the supermarket so the prices are fixed. they are understandably higher than in the wet market but this allows us to pay via credit card. hehe. best thing is, there's no room for price manipulation.

  14. I feel so bad too when I get cheated! My hub and I was shopping for strawberries once at the baguio city marker for visitors and my hub caught the vendor adding spoiled ones! Hayy

  15. It is the same scenario with my students. Nowadays, it's a norm for students to cheat in SO MANY WAYS I could ever imagine. Sad it is!

  16. I am a gullible woman and I often take precautions when I am in the wet market. People do anything to earn extra. What they don't know is that they lose valuable customers whenever they do.

  17. ohh..there are lots of cheater in the market so we as a customer we should be vigilant always..

  18. Nakaka-disappoint kasi the cheating is out in the open. And there's no remorse. Vendors need to take pride in their work, that way maybe they'd resort to cheating less and less.

  19. Sadly, such people do exist in the world. I learned my lesson a few months back when I got scammed over a pair of shoes for my sister and bag for my mom. :-(

  20. There are a lot of sellers/vendors talaga that are dishonest, mababa minsan ang pa-presyo nila, babawi naman sa uncalibrated na weighing scale. :(

  21. That's terrible.so many dishonest sellers.. I normally buy my food at a supermarket as the prices are stated clearly.. though we still need to go to different supermarkets as prices are different at different places.

  22. I just don't understand what fulfillment people can have when they cheated on other people. Hindi naman nila ikakayaman un ilang pisong pandaraya so why cheat. Meron din kami suki ng gulay. Ang bilis magcommute then minamali nya un total price. Then nun minsan sinabayan ko sya ng commute aba 20 pesos higher ang kanya so I asked her to compute again, mali nga sya. From then on, talagang nagccompute na ko sa harap nya. Hehe.. Sana honest mistake lang talaga.

  23. Ako rin, tinatandaan ko ung mga nanloloko sa akin. Hindi ko na binabalikan. It is really disappointing especially na hindi naman tumatawad sa presyo.

  24. This cheating issue is now very popular in our country! Napoles has cheated millions of people... hay... But despite our daunting situation, I am certain that our good Lord is still in control.

    TumugonBurahin
  25. tsk tsk, that's so bad. that's why we don't buy meat at the wet market. kasi meron talagamng kumita lang eh mandadaya pa.

    1. That makes me sometimes think, it is more expensive to but at supermarkets but on the other hand I think I got the exact weight from them than the wet markets and it is also "fly" and insect free. so If I learned that the price between the two has small margin lang naman..sa Supermarket na ako buy.

  26. We have a big marketplace that is the economy, though... LOL. We are now experiencing again, oil increase, which I'm sure other commodities will follow.

    TumugonBurahin
  27. aww.. this is why our world is full of corruption. it will always starts on a small act..
